SPM 2008: Questions?

Image
Yesterday was a HUGE day for the family: Manja Princess got her SPM results. I'll be honest: I forgot about it until atthan reminded me, then I called her, she picked up the call, breathless; they were calling out names & the results, but her name hasn't been called out yet. I started to feel nerves for her & had to be assured when she said she will call me back. 5 min. 10 min. *sigh* She calls me back, I've never gripped the phone so tightly & she says (in that high-pitched voice bubbling over with excitement) that she got straight A1s. I closed my eyes with relief & happiness. See, I was worried that she might not have gotten straight As...My belief in her is such that even an A2 is impossible. She really is that smart :D Later in the day the family asked about what she should do: what course, what route to take, scholarships etc. coz now she has the ticket to do anything & go anywhere she wants. The dilemma is Manja Princess doesn't know what SHE ...

So it's that time of the year again! Chinese all over the world will welcome the Year of the Ox on 26th Jan. What will the year be like? The OX year is a conservative year, one of traditions and values. This is not a year to be outrageous. A slow but steady year. This OX year will bring stability and growth where patience and diligence pays off. This is a year of Harvest - when we reap what we have sown. Take care of business this year, do not let things slide. What would Rowie look out for? 1. Mandarin oranges: addictive! Big or small, I love 'em! 2. Reunion dinner: you'll never get the same dishes until the next CNY! I especially like Hou See Fatt Choy! 3. Arrowroot chips (nga ku): mmmm my favorite! 4. Family! Yay to family & home! :) 5. Ang pau: who doesn't like money? TBH it's really more of a traditional thing than something of utmost importance to me :) All in all... I just hope this year will be better than the last, ...

Obama's Inauguration Speech

Image
I know, I know, I've been dormant for a while...I've been busy, here's something to enjoy...the transcript for Obama's Inauguration Speech: My fellow citizens: I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition. Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true to our founding documents. So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans. That we are in the ...

Movie Review: Australia

Image
I'd my doubts about this film. Newspaper reviews said it'd be better off as a musical, the word "Crikey" tossed too much around...After sitting through roughly 3 hrs of that film, I'd say they were DEAD WRONG. I totally enjoyed it! My 1st reason would be Hugh Jackman. *sigh* On to the review! The Plot Set prior to World War 2, Lady Sarah Ashley came from England to Australia, determined to coax her philandering husband, Maitland, to sell his cattle ranch, Faraway Downs. He arranged for her to be picked up by the Drover, an independent cattle drover who "works for no one". However, he was murdered just as they reach Faraway Downs & she is shocked. Fletcher, the station master, informs her that he suspects King George, a Aborigine to be responsible for her husband's death. She then meets Nullah, a half-caste boy; he hides from the white authorities to avoid being one of the Stolen Generations, removed from their families to "breed out the blac...
