Moist Banana Carrot Cake

Image
It's been a while since I puttered around in the kitchen; my weekends were busy until yesterday, and it seemed that fate wanted me to make something , so I had just the right amount of ingredients available to follow this recipe .  Exceptions to the recipe: 1) I only 75 g of carrot and  40g of almond powder 2) I went for low-fat and low-sugar 3) I added a ripe banana 4) I did not add any liquer nor almonds (for decoration) 5) I didn't grate the carrot; I used a food processor instead (mix the carrot and banana) The result was really good, the cake was moist and the banana went well with the carrot! I managed to control the baking by covering the top with a aluminium foil so the cake was evenly baked. I'm very motivated to try a moist chocolate cake next :D PS Does anyone know how to remove the scent of baking soda?

Movie Review: Guardians of the Galaxy

Image
Y'know when movie trailers set your expectations up high but it ends up to be better than the actual film? Good thing this was NOT the case for Guardians of the Galaxy; maybe I learned from previous "incidents" that it's better to set a lower expectation to reduce the disappointment so I thought this film ain't gonna be on par with the massively-successful Avengers movies but GotG is highly entertaining!  *Disclaimer: I did not follow the comics so my view is purely that as a movie-goer.  Plot Young Peter Quill fled his dying mom's sick bed, only to be abducted and raised by the Ravagers, extraterrestrial pirates. Their leader, Yondu, never let up on how Quill should be grateful that he was kept alive. Fast-forward 20+ yrs, Peter Quill retrieves an orb that is wanted by both Yondu and Ronan, the latter being a power-thirsty and vengeful fanatic from Kree.  Quill tries to sell the orb but fails, and finds himself the target of Gamora, a beautiful and

Dinner at Neroteca

Image
Initially me & 4 friends wanted to have dinner at TwentyOne but we realized we eat there quite frequently so we got Livingsocial cash vouchers at Neroteca . I suppose the restaurant opted to promote itself via Livingsocial as frankly its location isn't as strategic as Changkat (however close it actually is to that pub-filled street).  Service was good; they were not hesitant to provide bread, which I may add was really good as it was dense and soaked up yummy balsamic vinegar + olive oil really well = win! They also provided grilled (?) garlic pips so they gave a nice zing to the bread. They were quick to respond, so plus point for them. The ambiance was nice; there were interesting decor and the layout was bright and spacious.  They'd a decent variety of wine; me & my friend tried the French Sauv. Blanc and Chardonnay - the latter was better, it had better body and it was less dry. The guys had beer and sparkling water.  On to the meals; I'd spag

Neem Melaka

Image
I just got back from a weekend getaway with the bf in Melaka. I booked the Kemboja room at the Neem Boutique Hotel via Groupon. First I must apologize for the lack of photos, we arrived at Melaka pretty late so we didn't have much time to take photos while we were out & about :D The hotel wasn't easy to find coz the signboard was small and only present at the entrance so we missed it and had to make a huge round to get back...heavy traffic didn't help much -.-lll We were greeted by a kindly elderly lady, I think she's the owner's mom. She was friendly and registration was quick. We were the only guests so it felt like we had the whole villa to ourselves, especially since the lady was unavailable after we left for a night out.  We got the Kemboja chalet; the room was smaller than I expected but it was fine for a night's stay. The mosquito net added coziness to the bedroom and the bed was elevated. The bathroom had a "open sky" concept, with
