Movie Review: The Holiday

A sweet & funny film from Nancy Myers, this film is about (as the tagline went) "two women find that a change of address can change their lives".

The Cast
Jude Law is simply delicious in this film. Need I say more? Fine, I wanted to gobble him up in his careless, sexy, shirtless charm. His accent was adorable & he played his character with such humor, it's hard not to like him. Cameron Diaz is quirky, her script is hilarious & she really brings the light with that awesome smile. Kate Winslet is sweet & endearing as Iris; plus I love her big pretty eyes. Jack Black for once, isn't being an annoying joke-cracker, he actually pulled off his role pretty well & it was fun to see him try on something new. Supporting cast did well to keep the mood of the film light & enjoyable.

The Plot
Iris is hopelessly in love with a man who is engaged to another woman. On the opposite side of the globe, Amanda discovered that her significant other was unfaithful. In an effort to start anew, these 2 women went online & swap houses for the holiday. While Iris blooms in her newfound freedom (from stagnant love), finds friendship with Arthur, a bright screenwriter, she meets Miles & finds hope. Amanda falls for Iris' handsome brother, Graham, & they try to work out the kinks in their relationship.

The Music
Hans Zimmer works his magic again with lovely soaring tracks plus creative light music for this film. Other songs include "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" by Jet, "You Send Me" by Aretha Franklin, "At Your Side" by the Corrs & many other tunes that really set the right mood for the film. No complaints here :)

A sweet & funny film indeed. You can curl up with your girlfriends/special someone while you watch this film. It's endearing & you can easily relate to/feel for the characters. Another good film from Nancy Myers :)
