Dream Song List for Convocation

A chat today made me wonder: what songs would I like to hear reverberating through the hall during my convocation ceremony? I went through my song collection & selected the following:

1. Let It Be - The Beatles
When I find myself in times of trouble,
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness,
She is standing right in front of me
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken-hearted people
Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted,
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.

And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music,
Mother Mary comes to me,
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

2. Kenangan Terindah - Samsons
Aku yang lemah tanpamu
Aku yang rentan karena
Cinta yang telah hilang darimu
Yang mampu menyanjungku

Selama mata terbuka
Sampai jantung tak berdetak
Selama itu pun
Aku mampu tuk mengenangmu

Darimu...kutemukan hidupku
Bagiku...kaulah cinta sejati

Bila yang tertulis untukku
Adalah yang terbaik untukmu
Kan kujadikan kau kenangan
Yang terindah dalam hidupku
Namun takkan mudah bagiku
Meninggalkan jejak hidupku
Yang telah terukir abadi
Sebagai kenangan yang terindah

3. Happy - Leona Lewis
Someone once told me, that you had to choose.
What you win or lose,
You can't have everything.
Don't cha take chances
Might feel the pain
Don't cha love in vain
'Cause love won't set you free.

I could stand by the side
And watch this life pass me by
So unhappy
But safe as could be.

So what if it hurts me?
So what if I break down?
So what if this world just throws me off the edge
My feet run out of ground
I gotta find my place
I wanna hear my sound
Don't care about all the pain in front of me,
I just wanna be happy,
Just wanna be happy.

Holding on tightly, just can't let it go
Just trying to play my role
Slowly disappear.
All these days I feel like they're the same
Just different faces, different names,
Get me outta here.

I can't stand by your side
Watch this life pass me by.

So what if it hurts me?
So what if I break down?
So what if this world just throws me off the edge
My feet run out of ground
I gotta find my place
I wanna hear my sound
Don't care about all the pain in front of me,
I just wanna be happy,
Just wanna be happy.

4. Pomp & Circumstance - Sir Edward Elgar

I love the grandeur of this piece :)

5. You Raise Me Up - Josh Groban
When I am down, & oh, my soul so weary
When troubles come & my heart burdened be
Then, I am still & wait here in the silence
Until you come & sit awhile with me

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be.

6. Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
Just a small-town girl
Living in a lonely world
She took the midnight train going anywhere
Just a city boy
Born & raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere

A singer in a smoky room
A smell of wine & cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on & on & on & on

Strangers, waiting, up & down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Paying anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh the movie never ends
It goes on & on & on & on

Don't stop believing
Hold on to that feeling
Streetlight people

7. You Can't Always Get What You Want - Rolling Stones

I saw her today at the reception,
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she was gonna meet her connection
At her feet was a footloose man

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, well you just might find
You get what you need.

And I went down to the demonstration
To get my fair share of abuse
Singing "we're gonna vent our frustration,
If we don't, we're gonna blow a 50-amp fuse"

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, well you just might find
You get what you need.

I went down to the Chelsea drugstore
To get your prescription filled
I was standing in line with Mr. Jimmy
And man, did he look pretty ill
We decided that we would have a soda
My favorite flavor, cherry red
I sung my song to Mr. Jimmy
Yeah, and he said one word to me, and that was "dead"
I said to him:

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, well you just might find
You get what you need.

I saw her today at the reception
In her glass was a bleeding man
She was practiced at the art of deception
Well I could tell by her blood-stained hands

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes, well you just might find
You get what you need.

8. Imagine - John Lennon
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no country
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

So...
I'm not sure if any of these songs will be played during my convocation ceremony, but it would be nice to have good inspirational music on one of the most important days of my life.
