Ipoh Day Trip

Image
Me and friends decided to celebrate Merdeka Day doing what Malaysians do best: MAKAN. So on 1st Sept, we left KL around 5.30am and arrived at Ipoh within 2 hrs. It was already packed with people having the same goal as us: looking for dim sum breakfast in Ipoh. We headed to the popular Foh San but the crowd was immense; you'd think the restaurant staff would have a better system in handling the q but there was none in place! We walked down the road to the less crowded (but we still had to wait 20 min) restaurant.  Crowded everywhere! BREAKFAST, FINALLY A trip to Ipoh would not be complete without Funny Mountain tau foo fah stall. On the way there, we stumbled upon the mural alleys and admired some unique artwork.  We waited 20 min again, luckily we met a friend who let us queue with him. We did some light shopping for biscuits and other food stuff at one of the various confectioneries.  Mmmm huge vat of tau foo far Confectionaries galore We

Souled Out, Ampang

Image
We held a farewell lunh for one of the senior engineers at Souled Out, Menara HL at Ampang. None of us have been there but we checked reviews online and they were positive. We chose to have lunch on a Wed which was a good thing as service was fast and we needed to be back at office to finish off work. The best selling point is the HUGE variety of pizza, Asian favorites, pasta, meat dishes you can choose from. This was great considering we had 9 hungry people + 1 vegetarian. I'll let the pics speak for themselves!  Cantonese style beef kuay teow Caesar salad - pretty big portion! Teriyaki chicken sandwich Spicy tom yam Duck & sundried tomato spaghetti Grilled salmon was the hit of the day - the sauce was AMAZING Salmon alfredo Fried rice Char kuay teow Beef burger Spaghetti aglio olio The drinks don't disappoint, there is a wide range of juices, mocktails etc to pick from!  Dragonfly - dragonfruit base Eclipse

Hair Away: Review of Musee Platinum Tokyo

Image
There are many articles out there busting the myth that hairless is beautiful. I wouldn't proudly proclaim that I've an unbearable bush at my underarms but I have an incessant urge to make it bare and hair removal is part of my maintenance routine. I use tweezers (I'm such an expert) but I do notice the skin surface isn't as smooth as I'd like it to be (the pores tend to be bigger if you pluck often) and hair growth doesn't change.  I bought this Groupon for lifetime sessions of hair removal (bikini + underarm) for only RM128 at Musee Platinum Tokyo . Musee is proud of their S.S.C Method, where they effectively remove hair by "intercepting" the hair growth cycle (this is my own deduction, you can try and infer the mechanism from their site ). I signed up at Fahrenheit 88 as it is near to office hence convenient for me to book during weekdays (less crowded).  Note: You're only allowed to change location once.  1) Consultation The therapis

Introduction to Classical Music

Image
I have to admit I've forgotten so much of classical music history that I learned during my piano classes and I joined this offering by Yale University as I wanted to refresh my memory and revisit classical history in a more informal manner.  This course was A-MA-ZING!  Why? Well the lecturer Dr. Craig Wright is the main reason I was excited every week for lecture videos as he exudes so much warmth, I feel like I'm getting a personable one-to-one class! He breaks down classical music without detracting its very complexity yet eases us into understanding its evolution towards the music that we know today. The lecture videos impart top quality content; may it be excerpts from his classes at Yale, or a tour of old pianos at the museum. We learned the background of key composers and why they wrote the music in such a way. The connection between music and history + art was very well elaborated and I have a richer perspective on the beauty of classical music. There were the

Chongqing Sichuan Steamboat

Image
I organized a dinner to celebrate birthdays of 2 badminton kaki so I looked for venues nearby (we planned to go after a session). I saw this Groupon and thought, why not? I've not tried Sichuan cuisine before and I find steamboat to be a great method to bond while eating.  However it wasn't a fantastic experience and I don't think I will return. This will be a short post and (sad to say) my 1st negative food review. Here are the facts: 1) Target customers I'm not sure if many people know this but there are many tourists in this Pudu area. The no of hotels and tourists buses in the area explained the possible origin of this restaurant - to cater to tourists from China who wanted food from the motherland. Hence the price was not that cheap. It was quite empty the night we went but I imagine it would be packed with Chinese tourists during their peak hours.  2) Service To be honest, service was fine; the wait staff were friendly and attentive. They were quick to
